And as the down economy continues to affect more and more area residents, our 700 area partner agencies, including food pantries, day care and recreation centers, senior centers, faith-based organizations, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, are asking for more help than ever before.”

This past year hasn’t been as prosperous as I had wanted, but it still was good. Very good in this economic environment – in fact. Many of our neighbors were not as fortunate. Unfortunately there are those in the nations capitol (our neighbors) with great needs. The soup lines are growing. Have you by chance passed Franklin Park (between 13th and 14th Streets at K NW) at dinner time. If you have you saw literally hundreds of mostly men and some women standing in line for a warm meal. I was moved. Being about these street for years, I’ve seen these lines before, but never a crowd. Ending hunger in our town is within or power. (www.capitalareafoodbank.org) .
